Our debts we owe and the debtors who owe us: It's a perennial issue that bewilders people in this day and age. And it is central to Jesus' model prayer He gave in the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus' statement after the Model Prayer he gives His disciples contains a terrifying warning about God's forgiveness. People, theologians, pastors, preachers all try to explain away and excuse themselves from Jesus' comments about forgiveness.

Have you ever wondered how to pray like Jesus? The disciples did - and they asked Him to teach them how. So, He gave them what is often called "The Lord's Prayer" - it's the manner, the model, the pattern of prayer given by Jesus Christ to His disciples. But it's not what you think it is!

What really is the Kingdom of God? Why would we pray "Thy Kingdom Come"? Jesus specifically instructed that we pray for God's Kingdom to Come, but most Christians either don't understand or ignore this special Plan of God; a Plan for His own Kingdom that He had in mind from the beginning of time.

Our prayers matter to our Father in heaven more than we realise. And in order to pray to Him, we need to recognise that His love for us means not only that He sees our needs but that He wants to us to talk with Him and be transformed by Him.

Understanding why Jesus said our prayers should be private and in secret shows us the loving nature of the treasured prayers between the saints and God.

We are a world at war - and most of us do not know it! Jesus' model prayer calls on believers to pray, "Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us From The Evil One".

We all need to eat every day and God does not "spiritualise" His love that He ignores our very human needs. So, Jesus tells us to ask God for that bread - our physical needs - that we need every day not just selfishly, but for others, too. And Jesus points out that we need more than bread every day if we are to truly live!

This sermon contains teaching that is unique and new to the vast majority of people, even lifelong Christians, yet vital:
What's in a name? The names of God are not just label or phonemic groupings - they describe His attributes. And Jesus focused on God's Name as Father. Why should we pray "Hallowed Be Thy (Your) Name"?

What is God's will for our lives? It's a question that occupies all Christians. But perhaps we're asking the wrong questions. And if God does all His will as He pleases, why are we told to pray: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven?"
