Rather than focusing on political, economic, or social explanations, the sermon identifies a deeper crisis: a loss of truth, authority, and the ability to hear the voice of God.
 
Drawing from Jesus’ conclusion to the Sermon on the Mount, the sermon explores the reaction of the crowds to Christ’s teaching — astonishment at His authority — and asks why His words carried such weight in a world already filled with teachers, experts, and religious leaders.
