SWEPT CLEAN—BUT EMPTY?
Matthew 12:43–45
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person … That’s how it will be with this generation.”
A house can be swept clean and put in order.
But what happens when it remains empty?
In Matthew 12, Jesus tells the unsettling story of an impure spirit that leaves a person, wanders through dry places and then returns. Finding its former house unoccupied, swept and orderly, it brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself—and the person’s final condition becomes worse than the first.
Then Jesus declares:
“That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
What did He mean?
Was Jesus speaking only about an individual person—or was He warning an entire generation that had witnessed His power, experienced extraordinary blessings and yet refused to receive Him?
This Saturday, we continue our verse-by-verse journey through Matthew’s Gospel and examine one of Christ’s most sobering warnings.
Come and hear what Jesus really taught—and what His warning means for us today.
